In the "Battle of the Birds" the Hawks defeated the defending champ, and previously undefeated Eagles. Ariana Ramirez pitched a complete game and had help from great defensive plays by Ashleigh Meade and Bri Burch. Key hits by Katie Quinn and Kristen Jamison put the game away. After a sluggish start, the Gainesville bats woke up in a big way en route to victory. Trailing 7 to 2 after 4 innings, the offense erupted for 16 runs in the last 3 innings. Starting pitcher Brianna Burch settled down after a tough start to shut down the Parkside hitters in the later innings. The Hawks take on Bull Run at home on Thursday at 4:45pm. Abby Wann got her first pitching action of the season, and shut down the Manssas Park hitters, collecting 8 strikeouts. Chloe Boyd came in for the final 3 outs, and recorded a 1-2-3 inning.
Offensively, Heather Mann and Ariana Ramirez led the offense, each belting two hits and scoring 2 runs.

The Gainesville bats were shut down by a quality pitching performance. The Hawks scored their lone run on an RBI single in the 1st inning from Rosie Kogel, driving in Ariana Ramirez. Ramirez and Brianna Burch split the pitching duties. Gainesville looks to get back on track on Thursday as they host Manassas Park. The Hawks got their first victory of the season on Friday in a big way. Gainesville pounded out hit after hit on their way to 13 runs. Rosie Kogel had a big day at the plate going 3 for 4 with a single, double and a 2 run home run. Ariana Ramirez and Heather Mann each added 2 hits. On the mound, Brianna Burch pitched the comlete game, striking out 8. The Hawks take on Marsteller today at home at 4:45pm. Gainesville opened its season yesterday with a hard fought 4-2 defeat to defending champion Bull Run. The Hawks allowed 4 runs in the first inning, then settled down and shut the Eagle hitters down. Ariana Ramirez was terrific on the mound, and at bat as she held Bull Run hitters to 4 hits, while collecting 2 hits at the plate and scoring 2 runs offensively. Kristen Jamison added a solid RBI single. Gainesville looks to even their record on Thursday for their home opener as they welcome the Panthers of Parkside Middle.
